Obama Needed Changing

June 26, 2008

When a candidate is winning a race for office, when he or she is ahead in their internal polls they don't change much. Their stump speech remains unchanged, the way they dress or the way they set up campaign appearances remain the same.

Can you imagine a football coach whose team is ahead at the end of the first quarter telling his team they have to change strategy?  No what he does is tell his team to look our for the opponent to do this or that and to remember how they practiced to repulse this new  attack or overcome that new defense. The rule in both sports and political races is, DON'T CHANGE A STRATEGY AS LOG AS IT IS WORKING!!

But when a team falls behind it changes what it is doing. The game plan goes out the window.

The same is true in politics. A candidate that is ahead in his internal polls is doing things right. The last thing the campaign want to do is change things and take a chance of doing something wrong that costs points in the race.

So what does it tell you when a campaign is making changes... announcing they are doing something to change the situation? It tells you they are behind and not catching up.

A week or so ago Obama announced a re-introduction tour. Why? If you made a good impression at your first introduction why would a candidate need to be REINTRODUCED? The only possible answer is the first introduction did not go as planned. And when the Obama campaign says it is a reintroduction tour, it wants the voters to consider that they need to look at Obama again.. and this time get a good impression of him. They want the voters to know this is a reintroduction tour.  Otherwise they would not call it a reintroduction tour. It would just be a campaign tour.

Then comes the fake presidential seal? Why in the cat hair would they do that? Most likely  Obama's internal polls show voters are not for him because he is not presidential enough. So what did the Obama campaign do about  that?  Lets fix that "not presidential enough" impression of the voters. Lets give Obama a fake presidential seal. That will make him look presidential.. won't it?

And what happened? It blew up in his face.. that is what happened.

So what was he doing yesterday. He held a formal "Presidential" press conference.... complete with huge American flags, and  a Presidential style podium (no presidential seal). They got upholstered seats for the media and had press seating organized with velvet ropes. Oh how Presidential can Obama be? Just look at him!!!!

WHY?  Why would the Obama campaign take a chance on Obama being painted as a pompous ass?  How about if what he has been  doing has turned out to be a failure. We know he is taking a chances on new strategies. That is a clear sign things are not going well for the Obama Campaign.

What did he start out doing? Well they likely did polls and found that 70 percent of the voters wanted us out of Iraq... So he proposed that we pull out of Iraq instantly. And a majority of voters polled were against NAFTA so he proposed renegotiating NAFTA. Only to find those things did not help him with the voters he needs. Those positions did, in fact, hurt him.. So now he is about visual image.. and that is not working either.

The media says a lot of things.. most of which are bull. But what I have found most helpful in understanding a situation is to look at what candidates do and ask why would they do that? What must their internal polls say to cause the campaign to do what it is doing?

The media is trying its best to elect Obama. But Obama is acting like a man who is behind and McCain is acting like he is in the lead.

There is one other option, Obama was doing as well as the media says  but his campaign believes that they can do a lot better if they just try new things. But we know the latest stuff from breaking his word on campaign finances, to his own presidential seal to a presidential style press conference did not work.

If they go back to the first strategy, then they may just have a dumb coach. But if we get more changes in Obama... then we'll know what is really going on. My bet is he is in Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for Poop..  I think he is in deep excrement.

A Candidate's actions always speak louder than the media's words.
